Sometimes you read a book that is a must read because of the social/political message it carries and sometimes you read a book because it is emotionally powerful and is unputdownable. THUG is a mixture of both.

This beautiful, powerful and fantastic book is about a girl named Starr who witnessed the shooting of her unarmed best friend Khalil by a white police officer and the aftermath. Though she is angry and wants justice, the world is a messed up place and she is afraid to speak. TUPAC once said that Thug Life stood for 'The Hate U Give Little Infants Fucks Everybody'.
This book is the kind of book that will break your heart, make you angry because justice is not always served and yet warm your heart with Starr and her beautiful family in a few pages.
And I loved how the author has made Chris a loving boyfriend till the end. How he used to make Starr smile by rapping in the middle of the hall or being there with her always.
What else can I say? If you want to cry, laugh and then cry some more then read this book. If you agree that yes Black lives do matter then read this book.
